Overview

Nature Kit is a series of interactive devices designed to foster curiosity and healthy habits in early childhood. Moving away from screen-based interactions, these devices use tactile feedback, soft materials, and gentle light to guide children through daily routines and learning activities.

Approach

The design process involved extensive user research with parents and early childhood educators. We focused on "calm technology" principles—creating devices that inform without demanding attention. Technically, we embedded capacitive sensors and soft actuators into silicone and fabric enclosures, controlled by microcontrollers running custom behavior loops.

Deliverables

We produced a family of three functional prototypes: a sleep companion, a hygiene habit builder, and an outdoor exploration tool. Each device features a custom-designed PCB and a soft-touch enclosure.
